My Favorite Things

Chicisimo

I know a number of you have been featured on Chicisimo, but I wanted to thank the lovely Maria for recently choosing and posting some of my looks on her site.  Maria also just launched Chicisimo Brides, providing fab inspiration pics for wedding dresses.  I’ve discovered some amazing new blogs from Chicisimo, so check her sites out!

Another thank you goes to the always complimentary Antoine of florilège d’esthète for passing along the One Lovely Blog Award.  He has an incredible way with words, making his writing and descriptions unparallel to anyone else.  Antoine, thanks for making me blush with your kind words…

And finally, the always hip and incredibly sweet Eden from Chic in the Tropics tagged me for a list of my 20 favorite things…

1.  COLOR – Red and black are my college colors, so I’ll always be a fan of those.  I’m also partial to blue.

2.  DESSERT – I’m actually not a big dessert or cake person, even though I have a sweet tooth for candy.  I don’t think I’ve ever had actual cake on my birthday… always ice cream cakes.  In fact, here’s my little Carvel ice cream cake I just had last week.

3.  SMELL – I dig fruity scents like coconut and strawberry.  I also like vanilla.  My perfume at the moment is Versace Bright Crystal.

4.  FLOWER - Orchids and sunflowers

5.  ANIMAL – I love monkeys!  Whenever I go to the zoo, I love to watch them swing around.

6.  MONTH - June because it’s my birthday and the start of summer

7.  BEVERAGE – My daily beverages include lots of water and Nestea.

8.  SHOES – Favorite shoes that I own are my Jeffrey Campbell Biz Belted Booties.  Shoe crushes are the Alexander Wang “Hanne” Triple Buckle Boots and Balmain Multi-zip Suede Boots.

9.  SNACK – If I want something sweet, I’ll eat Skittles or Sour Patch Kids.  If I’m craving something salty, which is usually the case, I’ll opt for popcorn or Kettle potato chips.

10.  SONG/S - Yea, I have too many favs, but I’ll always love “Sway” by The Perishers, “With or Without You” by U2 and “Friday I’m in Love” by The Cure.  And no matter how many times they’ve been overplayed on the radio, I still dig “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga and “Live Your Life” by T.I. and Rhianna.

11.  BOOKWhere the Wild Things Are (can’t wait for the movie!)

12.  FRUIT - Pineapple and mandarin oranges

13.  HAIRSTYLE – Honestly on a daily basis I don’t do anything with my hair.  I let it air dry after washing it and I’ll fess up that I don’t even brush my hair… until it gets too knotty to stand, and then I’ll whip out my brush.  The most I do with my hair is twist it into a tight bun if I want to add some waves.  On occasion, I do like to throw on a headband every now and then.

14.  PIECE/S OF CLOTHING – Skinny jeans, leather jackets, oversized blazers, corset tops and men’s plaid shirts (like the Stapleford Buffalo Work shirt via Urban Outfitters below) .

15.  STORES TO SHOP - Since my mall trips have steadily declined, my fav online shops are Topshop, Urban Outfitters, Nasty Gal Vintage, Shopbop, Oaknyc and RevolveClothing.

16.  SEASON – Summer lovin’

17.  HOBBY - Dancing, following college basketball, dreaming up ideas for my future screenplay, watching bad reality TV, discovering new music bands or artists and of course shopping and flea marketing.

18.  THINGS TO COLLECT - Quotes.  I have an ever growing collection full of movie/TV, song, life, friendship and love quotes.

19.  MOVIE - Oh I could never just pick one, so off the top of my head, my favs are Goonies, Sixteen Candles, Dirty Dancing, The Rock, The Notebook, The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, The Hangover and I Love you, Man.

20.  RESTAURANT – Any Italian restaurant.  I could eat pasta everyday!

To keep this circulating, I’m tagging:

Shin from Fashion Cappuccino

Libby from FASHIONconfectionairy

Joelyne from the sydney girl

Ash Fox from Tit Tees

Carolina from The Clothist

Sylvia from Chaotic Cookie

Hope you all had an amazing weekend!  The June Gloom has passed and we are now enjoying the sunny LA weather again.  Yesterday, I saw “My Sister’s Keeper” and cried my eyes out.  OK, maybe I didn’t ball, but the tears were flowing every 5 min. or so.  If you like beautiful slow songs, then check out a sampling of the soundtrack.

There’s No Place Like Home

I’m back from my trip home to the Garden State and am already missing the east coast.  I had an amazing time celebrating my birthday and going to my friend’s wedding in Maryland.  And despite the downpour of rain, I made it to Topshop in NYC!

Topshop

When I first walked into Topshop, I was slightly overwhelmed, but in a good way.  To see things up-close that you’ve admired online for so long was great!  I spent a good hour in the three-level store and was glad to see that they keep the floor pretty well stocked in all available sizes.  Although I took an armful of clothes into the fitting room, I only ended up buying a denim dress (pictured below).  Nonetheless, I was excited to see the zero sales tax on my NYC receipt.  Screw you 9.25% sales tax in Los Angeles!

My fraternal twin, Melly, and I celebrated our birthdays in Atlantic City.  I’m wearing my Nasty Gal vintage 80′s dress with the Jeffrey Campbell Mel shoes, and Melly’s wearing a Topshop dress.  I didn’t get any full-length shots with my shoes, but when we were in the club, a bouncer came up to me (who I thought was going to tell me to stand away from the roped off section), and let me know that at least six people had been admiring my shoes.  HA!

The real reason I went back east was to go to my friend’s wedding in Maryland.  Doesn’t she look gorgeous?! Love her dress, esp. the strapless outline at top.  I wore my Topshop dress, UO necklace and Jeffrey Campbell Mel shoes.

Thanks for all the sweet birthday wishes in my last post!  I promise to get back to everyone’s comments and look forward to catching up on all your blogs!

Note to self:  Don’t take pics against a gray wall when you are wearing a gray blazer; you will blend in.

I will be heading back home to the east coast for my friend’s wedding and hitting up Topshop in NYC.  Oh yea, and then there’s that annual thing that happens when you turn a year older.  So yes, when I return I’ll be a year older though I still look like I’m 19.

With every birthday, I strive to accomplish at least one significant feat or meaningful goal during the year.  In ’08 it was completing my first (and last) marathon (without any training).  And I’m proud to say that I’ve already achieved my one goal for this year in starting this blog.  It’s now been three months since I’ve become a member of this fabulous blogging community and every day, I thank you for visiting because I love reading your blogs just as much.

OK, enough rambling because um, I still need to pack for my trip.  I’ll miss reading your blogs while I’m away but will return in a little over a week.

Some things to check out…

This week I was totally flattered when two rad blogs featured me.  Recently I discovered men’s blog, Trimmed with Gold Above, which includes anything from cool vintage finds to men’s style posts.  I dig it because the blog is also based out of LA and I was stoked to find out Style with Benefits was the  Find of the Day on Wednesday.

Then yesterday, the fabulous Fashionista posted pictures of some of my looks on her blog.  She has amazing style tastes and I love the inspiration pics she posts.

To add to the highlights of this week, the beautiful Anne from Mrs. Zeus awarded me with the Lovely Blog Award, which I’m passing on to everyone who reads my blog!

And finally, if you’re in the market for a new watch and have a Twitter account, then you should follow twitter.com/toywatch.  Listed among Oprah’s Favorite Things, ToyWatch USA is doing a giveaway on its Twitter page every Friday during the month of June.  They ask a random question in the morning (Pacific Standard Time) and their Twitter followers will be able to post answers.  At 5p.m. PST that same day, they will choose their favorite answer and give away a watch.  Today they are giving away the Neon Plasteramic watch ($195) in a pretty purple color that Michelle Obama was just pictured wearing.  The giveaway is open to everyone and they will ship (anywhere!) internationally.  I think it’s a fun contest, plus who wouldn’t want to win a cool watch?  Check it out!

Sorry for the long post, but I’ll be MIA for a few days and wanted to share these things with you.  As always, thanks so much for reading and for writing such sweet comments!  I read and appreciate each and every one!

Diggin’ William Phillips

IN Love.  From the stud detail to the fringe tassel to the fact that it can be worn two different ways, how could you not love this bag?

Yes, this bag has been discussed among handbag lovers, and I dig it as well.  For me, fringe will always be an instant fashion must.

Did I mention I dig fringe?  Well, this has the added bonus of a kick-ass connector ring.  In theory, love the idea.  In reality, I’d for sure have issues with having to constantly slip my fingers out of the rings whenever I wanted to open my bag.  I still give props to the idea though.

And I saved the best for last.  Again, with the whole connected accessory, I feel like I’d forget the bag was even connected to my wrist which would result in some clumsy situations.  Why yes that is a pseudo handcuff and those are prison stripes.  It also has a fitting name… in more ways than one.

William Phillips La Vita LOHAN Prison Cluth: $290

E-robe.com describes William Phillips as…

a new Australian handbag label that caters for those fashion savvy girls who ooze style and love items with a point of difference.  Fresh to the scene, this label is already stocked throughout the world and is assured to grow into the books of a Fashionista must haves.

Admittedly I haven’t been really paying attention to the handbag market since buying my two trustworthy bags — a Marc by Marc Jacobs satchel and tote — last year.  Every time I get a new handbag I neglect my perfectly usable ones and really they never see the light of day after I come home with a brand new one.  However, when I’m ready to invest in a new body sidekick, er, holder of all my crap, I’ll look to get one from William Phillips.  Not only do they have a rock glam vibe, but they’re also reasonably budget-friendly.  Score.
