KellyCutrone quote VH1final Kelly Cutrone: If You Have to Cry, Go Outside

Dear Kelly,

When I need a swift kick in the ass or a reminder that everything will be OK and that it is “not the end of the world” if something doesn’t go my way or just a reinforcing voice that I am the creator of my own destiny, I’ll re-visit the truth that you so genuinely and honestly have written.

Thank you for being a true voice of inspiration.

Concept LA Fashion Week

Last month I had attended the opening night of Concept L.A. Fashion Week at the Spring Arts Tower in downtown LA.  Combining runway shows with presentations, the atmosphere was casual and lent a nice flexibility for attendees to view the installations between shows.

Designers who presented runway shows included Chelsea Rebelle, B. Scott and Fremont.

Below are some photos I took showcasing the various installations by Otto Gates, Mike Vensel, Elmer Ave and Farm Tactics.

Titled “Love in the Time of Fast Fashion”, it’s amazing to think Otto Gates’ installation was created in a matter of 72 hours by designer Katie Kay, formerly a designer with LA-based Skingraft.  The modern all-black installation was a preview of Kay’s first solo line, which will debut in October.

Characterized as a modern minimalist designer, Mike Vensel’s installation showcased body-hugging lycra dresses that would flatter a number of women. The dresses shown above would be great additions to my LBD collection.

Elmer Ave took the prize for most interesting and attention-grabbing installation of the night.  After looking at their other collections online, Elmer Ave’s lines are infused with an edgy, rock and roll vibe, and full of clothes I’d love to wear.

Reinterpreting past influences and making them modern is at the core of Farm Tactics’ designer Kevin Ng’s design philosophy.  Showcasing workwear shirts, bags made from repurposed vintage military fabric and those amazing moccasins (pictured above), I was impressed by the craftmanship of Ng’s collection.  If you’re on the hunt to get your guy something special, check out Farm Tactics now.

Embracing my ‘dark’ side, I dyed my hair jet black last weekend.  To be exact, it’s blue-black with some ash mixed in, and way darker than my natural soft black color.  Now that I won’t have to make frequent trips to the hair salon for touch-ups on my roots, I’ve theorized that I can allow myself to buy an extra pair of shoes every two months.  Or I can just save the money.  But where’s the fun in that?

Being a fringe groupie, I couldn’t resist getting this massive fringe bodysuit when I scoped it out online at Topshop.  Skin-tight reminding me of the leotards I used to don in dance class as a youngin, this bodysuit will get a lot of play in the summer.  However, with fringe this long, I have to be extra careful since it appears that I’ve managed to already rip two strands off.  Plus washing your hands while keeping the fringe dry is close to impossible.

I mentioned this bodysuit will get a lot of play this summer.  And by play, I mean I’ll be flapping my wings and twirling around because that’s what you want to do when you have loads of fringe hanging down from your arms.  Right?!

xoxo

btw, I recently joined Lookbook.nu and Weardrobe.  Yes, I’m late to the party.  You can also find me on Chictopia though I’m that delinquent poster who updates about once a month.  Friend me!

Men’s Street Style: The Lookers

I’d give you a second glance on the street…

… because I love the way you mixed your red checkered coat with the plaid.  And you’re adorable.

… because your shoes match your bike.  Simplicity at its best that just works.
